Consultation has concluded

The Wingecarribee Shire Council is developing a Positive Ageing Strategy 2016-2026 to plan for the needs of our ageing population. The Strategy will document how Council aims to support older people to live happy, healthy, independent lives and remain connected to the community as they age.

The aim of this consultation is to understand what is important to older people within the Wingecarribee and what can be done to improve the Shire for people as they age. Community feedback will guide Council in developing the Strategy and priorities for the next ten years.

Following months of consultation with the community and then a careful review of feedback, the Draft Positive Ageing Strategy 2016 - 2026 and Action Plan has been placed on public exhibition and is available for viewing and comment.

The Strategy outlines what Council will do to support positive ageing and the accompanying Action Plan outlines priority areas and specific strategies to make Wingecarribee Shire an age-friendly community.

We actively listened and are currently pulling together a draft strategy based on the responses recorded from:

    • Service Provider Consultations
    • Community Survey
    • Community Consultations
    • Ageing Roundtable with key stakeholders
    • Council staff workshop to develop a ‘whole of council approach’

    Our next steps:

    • Further develop Council actions particularly longer term action and performance measures
    • Consult with relevant Council business areas and external partners to ensure support
    • Finalise draft Strategy document
    • Seek Council approval to place on public exhibition

Following analysis of the survey responses, our Ageing Project Officer has now prepared a Discussion Paper. The paper summarised the responses to the survey and identifies areas which need to be explored during the upcoming workshops.

You can find the Discussion Paper in the document library.

If you haven't already done so, please join us at one of the workshops so you can help guide the development of a Draft Positive Ageing Strategy.

  • Survey closed. Thanks for your interest!
