This page provides information about Council's plans to redevelop the Bowral Memorial Hall, including the historic School of Arts building, into a modern concert hall for music which will be:

  • acoustically excellent
  • comfortable
  • accessible
  • well equipped

Although the key objective of the project is to create an acoustically excellent concert hall suited to the performance of unamplified music, the Hall will continue to be available as a cultural and community venue for a wide range of uses.

The current building does not have any facility for performing groups to advertise current or upcoming performances in a way that is easily visible to passing traffic and pedestrians. Is there allowance within the development plans for an advertising hoarding at the front of the building? If so, what form would it take, where would it be located, and how big would it be?

Andrew Forbes asked over 3 years ago

    Hi Andrew,

A need for promotional display has been noted and is under consideration as part of the refurbishment of Bowral Memorial Hall.  The format of promotional displays will be determined later at the detailed drawing stage.

Sorry we can't provide specifics at the moment. Please subscribe to receive Bowral Memorial Hall project updates at www.yoursaywingecarribee.com.au/bowral-memorial-hall

Is there any prospect of getting retractable raked seating (ie tiered seating that can be wheeled back to the rear wall). Though risers do improve sightlines, existing seating on a flat floor means audience has to look up to the performers.

IanBeaBowie asked over 3 years ago

    What an excellent question!

Yes, the plan for the refurbishment does include retractable seating covering approximately one third of the seating capacity.

The fact sheet for the Bowral Memorial Hall indicates that Council will seek a grant for $800,000 to cover costs associated with technology and equipment upgrades. What grant - State Government?? And what is the time frame or this? Thank you

Sandra Jones asked over 3 years ago

    Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the question. There are a number of annual State and Federal funding programs that fund cultural infrastructure. As soon as the budget for the building works is confirmed and the DA approved, these opportunities can be pursued.

Are there concept plans for the Bowral Memorial Hall available for the public to view at this stage?

MRB asked over 3 years ago

Thank you for your enquiry re the Bowral Memorial Hall redevelopment design.

There is currently some final consultation being undertaken with Councillors and key stakeholders prior to the submission of a Development Application for the project.  Wider community consultation, including exhibition of the design, will take place as part of the DA process.

You can subscribe to receive updates on the project in the right column of this page. You may also be interested in the Bowral Memorial Hall fact sheet prepared for the exhibition of our Delivery Program and Operational Plan including budget, revenue policy, fees and charges.
