Opening of new Hockey Field

MEDIA RELEASE: 7 July 2020, Southern Highlands Hockey Inc.

Southern Highlands Hockey Inc is pleased to announce the Opening of the Second Hockey Field at the Southern Highlands Hockey Centre.

Wingecarribee Shire Council Mayor Clr Duncan Gair and Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith MP will attend and speak at this major event for the Southern Highlands Hockey community.

Southern Highlands Hockey Inc President, Paul Sabatier said "This event is being held in honour of Steve Bedson, Glen Isedale, David Mackay and Sandra Sharpe who have devoted themselves to providing a world class hockey facility for the Southern Highlands. We thank them for their commitment and dedication and invite our members to celebrate their achievement. We look forward to starting the 2020 season with a new floodlit hybrid synthetic field and recognise the support of the Clubs, their members and all users of the Hockey Centre for the success of our facility."

Major additions to the Centre, worth $1.4 million, include the construction of a competition standard wet and dry hybrid synthetic grass hockey surface with shock pad. Other facilities added in the project include the installation of player dugouts and erection of LED lighting and spectator mound.

Funding for the project has been made possible via a combination of grant funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund ($374,622 to assist field construction civils) and ClubGrants Infrastructure Grants Program ($235,000 to assist cost of mat & shock-pad) and the Australian Sports Commission Community Sport Infrastructure Grant (LED field lighting $195,000) with cash reserves from the Southern Highlands Hockey Association.

An interest-free loan has also been provided by Wingecarribee Shire Council to expedite the project. Council also coordinated the project delivery of the project.

Southern Highlands Hockey Inc. is one of the largest regional hockey associations with over 800 members. It comprises 7 local clubs from around 500 families from across the district.

Members and their guests are invited to RSVP online.

DETAILS: Sunday 12 July 2020 from 4pm to 5pm at the Southern Highlands Hockey Complex, 37 Meranie Street, Welby.
