Have your say about the proposed Indoor Aquatic Centre at Moss Vale. Swimming pools are important recreation facilities but Southern Highlands residents have always been limited to a short swimming season because of the cool climate. Wingecarribee Shire Council has been grappling with issues around location, cost, maintenance and development of aquatic facilities for a number of years. More recently a Working Group of community representatives was established to identify what indoor aquatic facilities are needed, where to build them and how much it would cost. The Working Group recommended that Council develop an indoor heated pool and possible gymnasium facilities for residents on the existing Moss Vale pool site.
Following community consultation in October and November 2011, Council has now lodged a Land Use Application for the Moss Vale Indoor Aquatic Centre proposal. Significant changes have been made to the design of the centre following feedback from the community and Council's engagement of an architect.

The Business Plan prepared for the indoor aquatic centre proposal includes a number of recommendations to ensure the facility is financially viable. Aquatic centres commonly make the most income from services and facilities other than the traditional lap pool. What programming do you think the pool should have to encourage usage? Would you like to see, for example, regular events like school holiday activities, learn to swim all year round, water basketball, aqua-aerobics and senior club sessions? Please let us know what you are interested in.

Got a great idea that would improve the indoor aquatic centre concept? Think outside the square and tell us more. It is possible that Council will stage the development of the indoor aquatic centre and that grant funding from a range of sources may lead to the inclusion of other features and services. Perhaps you have seen something at another centre that you liked. Please tell us your thoughts.

Working within a capital budget of up to $8M inclusive of all costs, Council will need to refine the designs as we go along to make sure we don't exceed this budget. This may mean that we can't afford everything we want. Please tell us which features should stay in the final design and why, and if any are to be added, which features should go.
