This project has concluded

Wingecarribee Shire Council is undertaking water and sewer main renewal works along Kirkham Street in Moss Vale.

Works will be carried out between Coles and the TAFE NSW Moss Vale campus. Weather permitting, works are expected to be finished by June 2022.

The works involve installing a new water main and decommissioning the aged pipeline. The adjacent sewer main will also be upgraded to ensure a safe and reliable service to our community for years to come.

Works will be undertaken by Council’s contractor, Killard Infrastructure Pty Ltd.

Project timeline

  • Early works commenced in December 2021.
  • Water main renewal works commenced in late-February 2022 and are expected to take six weeks to complete. Construction will then begin on the sewer main.
  • On completion of the water and sewer renewal works, Kirkham Street will undergo a full road reconstruction and new street trees will be planted in line with Council’s Street Tree Masterplan.

What to expect

Work hours are between 7 am and 5 pm, weekdays.

To enable works to safely proceed, the western parking lane will be temporarily closed. Traffic controllers will be stationed onsite to manage road and pedestrian traffic during works.

Road users are cautioned to exercise care when travelling through the work zone and be aware of machinery and workers in the area.

Some extended work hours may be needed to complete critical works. Immediate residents and businesses will be informed of this beforehand.

Following a pre-construction condition assessment and location of underground services, water main renewals works commence. These initial works are expected to take approximately six weeks.

The original scope of this project included footpath renewals. However, works are unlikely to impact the footpath, and this has been removed from the current scope.

Footpath renewals will be prioritised accordingly in line with Council’s regular Capital Works program.

To enable works to safely proceed, the western parking lane will be temporarily closed for the duration of works.

Road users are cautioned to exercise care when travelling through the work zone and be aware of machinery and workers in the area.

As part of these works, 22 street trees along the western side of Kirkham Street were identified for removal.

These trees will be replaced after road rehabilitation works, which are due to commence in the 2022/23 financial year, are completed.

European Nettle trees (Celtis Australis) will be planted from Coles through to Mack Street.

Following the intersection, Glory Maple trees (Acer Rubrum) will be planted.
