Merrigang Street Works

Council is preparing plans for the reconstruction of Merrigang Street in Bowral, from Jasmine Street to Myrtle Street.

The work will include rehabilitation of the existing road pavement, construction of new kerb and gutter, and installation of new water mains. Council is also investigating the need for additional stormwater drainage and possible removal and replacement of some street trees.

Construction will commence in the 2019/20 financial year and a start date will be advised closer to the time. Construction is expected to take five months with work halted during Tulip Time. Traffic control will be in place during construction with residential access being maintained over this time.

Council has written to all property owners in the vicinity and would like to hear about any issues that you would like us to consider as part of the project. This can be done via the ask a question tool or by contacting Councils’ Civil Design & Project Officer, Michael Rayner on 4868 0509 or michael.rayner@wsc.nsw.gov.au.

  • Watermain installation works to commence

    MEDIA RELEASE

Wingecarribee Shire Council wishes to advise that water main installation works are scheduled to commence along Merrigang Street in Bowral from Tuesday 8 October 2019.

Works are part of stage two of the Merrigang Street Reconstruction Project and will involve the installation of new water mains between Jasmine and Albert Streets on both sides of Merrigang Street.

Works will be undertaken by specialist contractor Carve Earthworks & Construction Pty Ltd with construction scheduled to commence following the conclusion of this year’s Tulip Time festivities.
Hours of construction will be 7am to 6pm weekdays.

As part of the works, thirty existing trees along the construction route will be removed. These trees have been inspected by a qualified Arborist and found to be in various stages of poor health and have been assessed as having ‘low’ to ‘very low’ future retention value. These trees will be removed prior to the commencement of the water main installation works. At the completion of the project, new trees will be planted as per Council’s adopted Street Tree Master Plan.

During construction work, sections of Merrigang Street may be temporarily reduced to one-way traffic but property access will be maintained. Signage will also be erected and traffic controllers will be stationed onsite to manage traffic during work hours.

Road users and pedestrians are cautioned to follow the changed traffic conditions, exercise care when travelling through the construction zones and be aware of loose stones and heavy machinery within the work areas.

Council thanks motorists in advance for their cooperation and apologises for any temporary delays or inconvenience.

The water main work is scheduled to be completed by early 2020. All timeframes are subject to weather conditions.

Following the water main installation Council will commence storm water pipe and road pavement reconstruction work, construct new concrete footpaths and renew the kerb and guttering.

For further information contact Council’s Project Civil Engineer, Jamil Ashraf on phone 4868 0888.
