What’s changed in the draft Plan compared to the existing Pesticide Notification Plan?

The new draft Plan has been streamlined to remove duplication of information and to make the plan easier to read.

There are also small changes to types of notification given for particular situations. The draft plan also now has more information included in the plan on how pesticides are used within council operations.

You can find the existing Pesticide Notification Plan on Council's website.

Where can I find more information about glyphosate?

Glyphosate is a commonly used herbicide. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority assesses and regulates the use of pesticide products in Australia. Products that contain glyphosate are regulated by the APVMA. Council only uses products approved by APVMA.

APVMA reviewed glyphosate in 2016 and found that products containing glyphosate were safe to use in line with the label instructions. Detailed information on glyphosate and its status can be found on the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority website

On 8 August 2018, Council passed a resolution that requests information on alternatives to the use of pesticides. Council uses a variety of measures to maintain public places including brushcutting, hand weeding and using herbicides and pesticides. A report will be brought back to Council in line with the resolution.
