Consultation has concluded

Council would like your help in creating a Plan of Management for the Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve (The Gib).

A Plan of Management is a public document that sets out how community land is to be used, improved, managed, and maintained. Council develops Plans of Management under the Local Government Act 1993 and assigns one or more category to the land which will govern how the land can be used.

Mount Gibraltar is an iconic landmark of special significance, recognised for both its ecological, heritage and cultural values. It is a popular destination for passive recreation for locals and visitors.

More information on Mount Gibraltar can be found on the Council website here.

Further information about the ecological communities can be found in the links located on the right hand side of this page.

Phase one consultation summary:

A workshop was held with the Mount Gibraltar Landcare Bushcare Group at the Renwick Community Centre on Thursday 16 June 2022. This was followed by a community survey. This feedback is being used to develop a draft Plan of Management for the Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve (The Gib).

By participating in our online survey you have helped us identify what is important to our community.

We'd like to thank those who have provided their feedback. We've listened, and the What we heard report is now available.

The draft Plan of Management for the Mount Gibraltar Heritage Reserve is expected to be submitted to the Ordinary Meeting of Council in November 2022. This is to seek authorisation to submit the draft to the Department of Planning and Environment (DPE), as the land owner of the northern part of the reserve, for endorsement prior to public exhibition.

Phase two consultation will commence once the DPE have authorised the draft plan for exhibition, which can take some time.

Once the draft plan is placed on public exhibition, which could be early 2023, depending on the DPE, you will be able to provide further feedback via a written submission.
