Cook Street Playspace, Mittagong

CONSULTATION HAS NOW CLOSED

The Cook Street Park Playspace is located at a small local park servicing the Mittagong community. Due to age, the former playground was closed in 2019 and the community have been advocating to have the playground reinstated.

Mittagong's Cook Street Park Playspace was nominated by our community as a priority project when the Playspace Strategy was adopted in October 2020.

The new Cook Street Park design includes an inviting and colourful playground with both formal and informal play elements.

To view the playground design click here.

The play area is made safe through a combination of rubber and natural softfall, safety fence bordering the creek and busy Cook Street and accessible with circuit pathway surrounding. An accessible parking spot will be formalised on Elizabeth Street with access grade pathway leading into and around the park. Seating opportunities are included, as well as plenty of shade trees. Park signage and other soft landscape plantings round out the design and increase aesthetic appeal.

How you can help us:

We would like to invite you to call in and chat with Council representatives and help us decide which play equipment style options should be used and provide feedback regarding the design. If the weather is too unpleasant to meet in the park, we would love you to come and join us at Welby Community Hall, 14 Currockbilly Street, Welby at the same time as above.

  • Feel free to give us your feedback regarding the playspace designs using the feedback tab above or clicking here.

Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan has identified parks and sportsgrounds as a key area for improvement, noting community feedback that Council’s open space areas lack accessible paths of travel, limited shade and seating and more inclusive playground equipment. Council’s Playspace Strategy supports this and was developed in line with NSW Everyone Can Play Guidelines.
