Consultation has concluded
Road naming is a key component in creating official property addresses and has the opportunity to impart local themes and a sense of Place to the road network linking our communities. Council is responsible for naming all public roads, under Section 162 of the Roads Act 1993 and the Geographical Names Board’s NSW Address Policy and User Manual (Address Policy), for which Council is the roads authority, and also holds the authority for endorsement of all names for private roads and Crown roads.
The existing Road Naming Policy was last updated in 1998 and linked to the 1998 version of guidelines of the NSW Address Policy that laid out the procedures for road naming across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) in NSW. The existing policy now contains outdated references and duplicates information contained within the Geographical Names Board’s Address Policy and User Manual. The proposed updates to the Road Naming Policy provide a concise document to support Council in the road naming function and provide great guidance to developers and the local community. The proposed updates to the Road Naming Policy have ensured the outdated references have been updated and now aligns with the Geographical Names Board’s Address Policy and User Manual.
The draft road naming policy was presented at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 16 August 2023 and was endorsed for Public Exhibition. We now invite members of the community to provide feedback on the Policy, with submissions closing on Monday 9 October at 4:30pm.
