Water Services

Consultation has concluded

Do you live in the Balmoral Village area? How do you access drinking water? Would an extension of Council's town water service help you?

As part of our ongoing work in improving the services we deliver, Council is seeking feedback from the community about the possible introduction of a water supply service to Balmoral Village.

Back in 2015, our staff identified a number of villages which may wish to connect to a reliable water service in the next 10 to 20 years. Very early and tentative stages of community consultation were undertaken to determine whether Council should commence design work or just keep it listed as a possibility in the distant future. Based on the results of community surveys at the time, it was recommended that the proposed water scheme be deferred and a similar consultation process be undertaken in five years to determine if the community needs have changed.

Balmoral Village residents are now invited to provide their opinions and assist us in determining the level of interest in a town water scheme.

HAVE YOUR SAY:

After the closing date a council report will be created recommending a course of action for the Balmoral Village Water Supply Scheme. Community feedback will be included in this report and will be a determining factor. If you have any further questions about the survey or the proposed services please use the 'Ask a Question' tool below or call the Water and Sewer Asset team on 4868 0888.

As regards the proposed Balmoral scheme, as we live at the far northern end of Railway Parade, will the proposed scheme provide us with a supply or will supply be only to properties nearer to the village? If supply is extended to our property would there be any reduction in water quality by being 'at the end of the line'?

Balmoral471 asked about 9 years ago

It is unlikely that we’d build a lot of pipeline if it only serves one property, it is more likely if there are several properties that can be serviced with the same line. If the community does want this service and the project moves forward, the design stage would investigate the provision of water that far north.

On water quality, water main line ends can suffer from some quality loss if left alone. Council performs maintenance (flushing) and carries out ongoing water testing to ensure water is provided at the Drinking Water Guideline standard.

Can the closing date for the survey on the proposal to 'install potable water supply in Wingello and Penrose' be extended? Today I completed the survey for the above proposal online. The first time I completed the survey online it came up with a message saying I had already completed the survey and you can't complete it twice. Yet when I rang the council there was no record of it coming through. A staff member tried to assist me by opening it up a second time but the second time the survey form 'blanked out' after submission and again when I rang the council no record was found of my survey being completed. Later on the council worker rang me to say that one of the surveys had come through (but I am not sure which one). Given that not all the surveys may be coming through I think it would be fair to extend the time for the community to complete the surveys. J Royston

Hi Jeanette, thank you for the suggestion but as we have not had any other reports of problems with this website we will not be extending the closing date. Sometimes residents have problems depending on which web browser they use but if others would like to check that we have received their online survey they can email engagement@wsc.nsw.gov.au.

By the way there is a delay between your completion of the survey and it appearing in the reporting section that we access. Your survey did end up arriving twice and one of these will be deleted.

Can staff be made aware of the delay in the survey? I contacted Council this morning after completing the survey because the survey provided no clear indication that the survey had gone through. Normally in online surveys a response will come up saying something to the effect of 'thank you for your survey' or 'your survey has been submitted successfully'. On the first occasion your survey form gave an indication that the survey had already been completed, but after being told by your staff it had not been received and to re-do the survey, which I did, your website gave no response whatsoever, the survey form just 'blanked out'. Neither of these responses gives a clear indication that the survey had been received. When I contacted your staff they indicated that they saw no evidence on either occasion that the survey had been completed at all. Your staff have made every effort to assist me but were obviously hindered by lack of clear guidance on the operation of the website.

Hi Jeanette, you are correct in saying that it is usual practice for a message to come up or an email to be sent to confirm that a survey has been completed successfully. We apologise for not activating this previously however as there have been no other reported issues with the survey we are not extending the closing date. There are still 10 more days for people to complete the survey - it closes at 5pm on Monday 31 March 2014. Thank you for your continued interest. Regards, SiteAdmin
