We are excited to share and receive your inputon a concept design for Wingello Adventure Play, located in the Wingello State Forest. We'd particularly like to hear from campers, event organisers and mountain bikers as well as local residents.
Council has successfully obtained $440,000 in funding through the NSW Department of Planning’s Places to Play Program for Wingello Adventure Play. This is a joint project between Wingecarribee Shire Council and NSW Forestry Corporation for the development of adventure play aspects to the existing mountain bike trails in Wingello State Forest. The purpose of the Places to Play Program is to create inclusive public spaces for adventure and play through better spaces that support adventure sport and recreation including mountain biking.
Wingello State Forest was the most popular mountain bike area for the Southern Highlands, but the forest was devastated during the Black Summer bush fires. The forest has been closed since then. This funding provides the opportunity to rebuild the facilities to include adventure play and more inclusive elements to make the Wingello State Forest mountain bike area a great regional facility for the Southern Highlands.
The Wingello Adventure Play project will add adventure play elements to the central circuit track around the campground and picnic area. Adding the adventure play elements will broaden the activities that the mountain bike track can be used for.
The new mountain bike track will include a shared-use trail. Difficulty rating: easy, enabling MTB, walking and trail running. The shared-use trail will be located closer to the central camp ground and picnic area.
A small skills trail loop for mountain bikers and encompasses a wide range of mountain bike terrain which caters for a range of skill levels.
The concept also includes an all abilities nature adventure playground which utilises the natural landscape and natural materials to provide a 'choose your own adventure' play space to build skills and maintain interest.
The upgraded adventure park will cater for both large formal events as well smaller gatherings for all members of the community, creating a vibrant and multi-use recreational facility within the State Forest.
All submissions will be considered by Council prior to the final design.
