Pies, pies and more pies

Consultation has concluded

We all know Australians love a good pie.

So Wingecarribee Shire Council's Tourism Unit (Destination Southern Highlands) initiated a unique marketing campaign called Pie Time in 2017 to highlight that we have a large concentration of quality Pie Makers in the region and position the Southern Highlands as ‘Australia’s Home of Pies’.

The campaign is aimed at giving potential visitors a reason to visit during winter with exciting offers of events, experiences and accommodation packages. The campaign won awards in 2017 and was expanded in 2018 to engage local community support and participation.

In an effort to grow this unique tourism selling point for our region we now seek your feedback and suggestions to improve the program of events and activities.

Pie Time is to have its future strategy and ownership considered by local stakeholders in a planned workshop.

Group Manager Destination Southern Highlands, Steve Rosa said “Pie Time has seen some major successes in its short time – and we are now coming into year 4 of its development as a major destination marketing campaign and we have to deal with the challenges of our previous success and look at keeping things fresh.”

Pie Time 2019 was conducted throughout the month of June, recording an estimated $3m economic contribution directly into the local visitor economy which was an increase of 100% over the previous year. The campaign reported a staggering 280,500 pies produced and sold by over 60 participating outlets.

“The award-winning campaign is now at the end of its planned 3-year funding period and to continue the same trajectory of growth we need to consider its future, its funding and its ownership. Pie Time has the opportunity to become known as one of Australia’s Home of Pies as well as one of Australia’s iconic festival events alongside other well-known NSW Regional festivals such Parkes Elvis Festival, Deni Ute Muster and Tamworth Country Music Festival. Pie Time needs to become an industry-led campaign, owned, grown and supported by the businesses who are benefiting from this new focus on our region.”

Pie Time campaign development and ownership options will be presented to Industry and Community stakeholders at a workshop on Wednesday 6 November 10.30am at the Mittagong RSL.

To attend the workshop please RSVP to: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=566475&
Or by phone to Destination Southern Highlands 02 4871 2888.

Good morning pie fans. The results are in!

Between 16 and 31 July 2018 we had 479 people visit this project page.

75 surveys were completed (1 of these was the business survey).

63 people voted in the Quick Poll, identifying that TASTE was most important, followed by quality of ingredients. 6 people also put a pin or two on the Pie Map to show where they’d enjoyed a pie – one even added a photo!

The team at Destination Southern Highlands will now begin looking at the survey responses in detail.

Thanks for your interest and feedback!

P.S. The Mayor will draw 10 pie sock winner's names on Friday morning and we will be in contact with them shortly afterwards :-)

3/8/18 UPDATE: Ten winners from Bowral, Burradoo, Burrawang, Colo Vale, Medway, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Renwick and Welby will soon receive a pair of pie socks in the mail.
