Consultation has concluded

Council are calling for community and industry representatives to help shape the low and medium density residential housing controls that will guide new residential development throughout the Shire.

Council are undertaking a major review of the development controls that apply to low and medium density residential development. The review is being undertaken as two separate projects for low and medium density residential development respectively.

The review of the low density residential development controls will provide a clear planning framework that is easy to use, understand and implement, without undermining the local character of our towns and villages. The review will not only streamline the assessment and approval process, but ensure that new development is responsive to the Southern Highlands context and character.

The review of the medium density residential development controls is intended to remove any unnecessary barriers and support a greater diversity of housing types to meet the changing needs of our community. The review aims to establish a clear suite of development controls that support housing diversity while ensuring that medium density development respects the local character and is in keeping with the communities expectations.

Community and Industry consultation is expected to occur in the near future, with key dates and times to be communicated shortly. The purpose of the consultation is to start to identify the key issues and explore potential opportunities with the community and industry, which will later be used to inform the review of the current low density and medium density residential controls.

The review of low and medium density residential development controls is one of the many steps that Council is taking to implement the Local Housing Strategy, to ensure that our housing stock continues to meet the needs of our community both now and into the future.

These projects are being completed with the support and funding assistance of the NSW Government and Planning Delivery Unit.
