This public exhibition has concluded and the opportunity to make submissions has closed.

Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking community feedback on a draft Public Memorial Policy and Guidelines.

We recognise that members of the community may wish to use a public space to commemorate a loved one through the planting of a memorial tree, erection of monuments, memorials and plaques or the naming of public spaces.

The Policy and Guidelines will provide a framework for assessing and approving requests from the community to commemorate loved ones on Council owned public land including parks and reserves.

The Draft Public Memorials Policy and Draft Public Memorials Policy Guidelines aim to:

  • Improve the management of public spaces within the Shire by providing a framework for the consideration and approval of memorials.
  • Improve consistency in decision making when Council receives a request to name a public place or building after a significant person within the local community.

For the following types of requests:

  • Planting of memorial trees
  • Park seats including plaques
  • Historical markers and commemorative plaques
  • Monuments, statues and other memorials
  • Interpretative signage
  • Naming of public places

Before providing feedback please visit the document library to read the draft Policy and Guidelines as well as the associated report.

There are a number of ways to let us know what you think or ask a question:
